Tips To Find The Cheapest Flights To Anywhere in The World
After 9 years of traveling the world diligently, I've learned a few tricks and budget tips that will help you save money on your next flight - to get to your destination at the right price.
1. Use The Best Flight Search Engines
Using a good air search engine is one of the easiest ways to find the cheapest flights. These sites require tickets on all the many different airlines and offer useful tools such as pricing, destination-based pricing maps, email alerts and more.It is a good idea to check multiple search engines before booking a ticket. You never know which site would have the best price for airlines.
Some search engines offer better deals than others - so here are my top 5 I use (strategically) whenever I search for my next flight.
Favorite places to compare cheap flights
Skyscanner (my pick # 1 for cheap flights)
Momondo (similar to Skyscanner, but not necessarily good)
Kiwi (includes connecting flights for deals)
JetRadar (searches for many budget airlines)
Google Flights (Google's attempt at an airline search engine)
Generally, my first stop is a Skyscanner when looking for inexpensive flights.
If I make good money, before I book, I will check other sites to make sure I get the best price.
2. Get Error & Discount Fare Alerts
In addition to searching through multiple search engines on airlines, I also recommend setting up pay-per-click alerts.Get details about your destination, date range, and website inform you by email when prices drop.
There are a few online airline hunting websites that seek the best deals, which do all the digging.
Join Flight Deal Newsletters Scott Cheap Flights is a great resource that I use with a whole bunch of people looking for discounts. Try it for 1 month for free using my discount link!
3. Book Tickets In January & February!
Some of the cheapest airline tickets I've seen are made available in the month of January and February. Flights to and from the United States to Europe or Africa for less than $ 500 !? Yes, please! You don't have to travel in those months, it means booking your tickets then.
Airlines seem to like to offer cheap flights earlier this year. Probably because people run out of money after the holidays and try to push the demand.
Keep this in mind when planning your departure for the following year, and set aside money for reservations for your summer vacation during the first months of January or February.
4. Check Alternative Airports
If you happen to live near a few airports, remember to take a look at each coin, and the nearest airport or major destination.Sometimes traveling by bus to or from a different airport can save you a lot of money on flights.
In the past, I've saved a few hundred dollars choosing to ride a $ 10 bus to New York instead of flying straight out of Boston. It takes a long time, so you'll have to keep in mind the cost of the opportunity.
5. Pick The Cheapest Destinations
The more flexible you are, the better your chances of finding cheap flights. So try to choose your destination based on where the deals are! Some websites make this as easy as Skyscanner Inspire Map.
You are also presented with a price map of various locations depending on your airport.
Flying in a random location can also be fun, and you can end up finding a place for the world you didn't plan to visit.
Flexibility and independence can save you money on flights.
6. Use A Good VPN Service
Another way for a fake airline to try to make a big profit is by charging different fees to people in different countries. For example, booking flights from overseas is often more expensive than booking internationally.
Prices may change based on when the transaction is completed, or "sell-through". However, you can beat them in their game using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to hide your location or pretend elsewhere.
I use Private Internet Access VPN because it’s easy, cheaper, than a smartphone app, and it doesn't limit my connection.
While using a VPN can save you money on flights, it is a myth that airlines use web cookies to worry about your money. Going to "incognito" in your browser will do nothing … trust me, I've tried.
7. Hitchhiking On Airplanes?
Have I told you about the time of my flight? Of course - I know this doesn't work for most people.I think you like to see how unique I have been able to book a free flight as well! And to check if you still pay attention… haha.
Like the best search on airlines, flying in a helicopter requires a mix of patience, flexibility, and a little luck!
8. Book Flight Legs Separately
For long-haul flights, it may cost to book separate legs separately than to get them all at the same time. I found it would cost less than $ 200 to fly from Boston to Copenhagen, followed by Copenhagen to Dublin on a budget flight, rather than booking a multi-lane trip from Boston to Dublin all at once. You might save money on the same trip, booking each section independently. Or by booking one-way tickets instead of a round trip. Spend 30 minutes trying to figure out what you are going through.
Remember though, it is important to pay attention to the departure times and departure times of these flights to allow yourself enough time to transfer. Otherwise don't miss your flight!
9. Fly Free With Credit Card Miles
It took me a couple of years to get into travel (I use points and miles to redeem free flights), but now I try to recommend it to others whenever I can!Last month my wife and I traveled to Antarctica, to Argentina for only $ 294. We were able to do this because we quickly built a set of airline miles covering two (!) Flights from New York, costing over $ 2000 USD.
When you sign up to get the right credit cards and use them wisely, it's easier than you can imagine saving many miles of free flight - you only pay taxes.
10. Don’t Wait Until The Last Minute
So you finally get the cheapest flights available at your destination, but you've heard elsewhere that if you wait and book at the last minute - flights can be a little expensive. Don't do it!Of course, prices rarely decrease when you wait. But it is very likely that they will increase!
Studies show that booking your flight three months in advance seems like the right time to find cheap flights.
This is because the airline lowers the price to drive demand - because the airline no longer carries anything. However, once the filling begins, they are able to grow them as people increasingly desire to find storage space.
Enjoy Your Next Cheap Flight!
So, that's where you have it. These are the tips and resources I use personally to find the cheapest flights in the world. In fact, I recently received ticket points for a trip from Boston to Dublin, Ireland for only $ 614 using these plans.
Flying does not have to be expensive if you know how to get the best deals and are willing to put in the effort.
Flexibility combined with spending 30 minutes searching can save you hundreds of dollars.
